2-13-09 The first few years of our children's lives (the formative years) are the most important as they development mentally and physically at great speed. Unfortunately, we as parents are having to do a lot of adjusting in our own lives while our children are in this developmental stage. We often look for more simplified ways to feed our children. I have found that the Pay now or Pay even more later really applies here. I am paying later. If you have young children or going to have children don't let their nutritional needs be low on your list. I began late in my children's lives which was a mistake but I decided it was still worth it. I started just by getting rid of all the cold cereals in the morning. Yes, my life became much more difficult as I have to get up and make good breakfasts with fruits, grains and vegetables but I know it will pay off and my family is worth it. Emerson once said, "what I need is someone to get me to do the things that I ought to do". I am grateful to those who are the example to me to keep me heading in the right direction.

2-12-09 We can learn two great lessons from Julius Caesar. He said , "The die is cast." This marked the point where deliberation ended and action began. The Rubicon is a small river in Northern Italy that was a teriitorial boundary line. No general was allowed to cross it without special permission from the Senate. The phrase "crossing the Rubicon," has been used to indicate some decisive action of great importance because of Caesar leading his legions across it. How often do we make a decision and are willing to stake everything upon our judgement and banish any contrary thoughts?When Caesar went to capture Britain, he landed his ships and unloaded the supplies and then in the night sent men out to burn the ships they came in. This way death was the only Roman alternative to victory. "When we cut off our chances to retreat, we increase our chances to succeed."I learned these great lessons from reading"Leadership" by Sterling W. Sill.

02/15/09 The following information comes directly from the book "The Rosedale Diet" by Ron Rosedale, M.D. As many of you know, there are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes (also called juvenile diabetes) is a result of too little insulin, the hormone that is produced in response to rising bloods sugar levels. Without enough insulin, blood sugar levels can climb dangerously high, leading to organ damage and death. Type 2 diabetes (also called adult-onset diabetes) is an entirely different story. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by a condition called insulin resistance, which occures when the cells of the body are constantly exposed to high levels of insulin. When you become insulin resistant, your body is making enough insulin, but your cells do not utilize it effectively. (The same thing occures with leptin, causing leptin resistance.) When your cells can't "hear" leptin's messages, you will not only be hungry all the time, but you will crave sweets. Why? Leptin resistance descensitizes your taste buds to sugar. That means, the more sugary foods you eat, the less likely you are to discern a sweet taste, so you will need more and more high-sugar snacks to feel satisfied. Once leptin sensitivity is restored and your taste buds shift into high gear, you will get much more pleasure from eating. You will rediscover the natural sweetness in food and will actually find that the supersweet snacks you once craved now taste sickeningly sweet.

2/11/09 My husband gave me a soybean milk maker for Christmas and I was telling a good friend about it. This friend is really into nutrition and she asked if the soybeans were organic and then she proceeded to tell me the dangers of soybeans that are not grown properly. She said they can really mess up your hormones. I then was talking to another lady who had breast cancer and was told by her doctor not to use soybeans. So I decided that there must be something to this and I started to do some research on the computer. If you have children on Soy formula you may want to do some research.
